The first time a person is spoken to by the police can be a terrifying experience and one, where people often have no idea what to do. The most important thing to do is to seek legal advice before you speak to anyone. At O’Neill Defence, we can attend at police stations with you if you are asked to come in for an interview and can provide 24-hour advice on the telephone if you are arrested. Our solicitors have attended numerous police interviews and can advise on the correct steps to take to protect your yourself in any situation.
Arrested and appearing from custody: This is, the traditional view of how proceedings start, however it is no longer as common as it once was, but if you or a loved one are in trouble do not hesitate to contact us.
Arrested and released on a bail undertaking: Being released on a bail undertaking, (or an undertaking as it often referred to) is now a common way for proceedings to start. You are arrested in a police station, but the police decide to release you on police bail, and you are given a date to attend court.
Arrested and reported for summons: Often the police will investigate a matter and then speak to someone then arrest and charge them and release them and say you may get something through the post. If the complaint comes through, the best thing is to seek advice how to proceed.
